Sat, July 23 to Wed, July 27, 2011 – sandbar at mile 447.8 on the Tennessee River

We spent the morning touring the city beginning with the double decker bus which gave us a little history of the area. After the hour-long bus ride, we boarded the free shuttle that took us around the main part of town and to the Chattanooga Choo Choo depot. The depot is now a hotel which includes old passenger train cars for accommodations as well as modern hotel buildings. After a little lunch and a look around, we hopped the free shuttle back to the Visitors Center and returned to the boat.

After 5 pm, we left the dock at Chattanooga and motored back to ‘The Beach’ anchorage where we arrived at 7:30 pm. There were still a few boats and a lot of young people around – most of whom had had more than enough to drink – so we anchored far enough away to give them some space. Shortly after sunset, we were once again alone in our quiet spot.

Sunday at ‘The Beach’ was full of activity but since we were anchored away from the action, we didn’t seem to interfere with anyone’s enjoyment of the place. The next three days were much quieter with just a couple of boats coming and going each day.
