Saturday, September 4, 2010 – St. Jerome Creek

It was a lovely sunrise at Jennings Boatyard. Gale had been eager to try waxing the boat to see if that would help keep the cruising “moustache” away. He was able to get one coat of wax on the lower part of the hull before 11:30 am when Blue Heron was hauled to the water. The guys at the boatyard were working the morning only and wouldn’t be back again until Tuesday because of the Labor Day Holiday. We didn’t want to spend that much time on the dirt so we settled up and were on our way at noon.

The sky was clear and we had a nice westerly wind. We traveled 30 nautical miles in six hours and decided to stick our nose into St. Jerome Creek. The guidebook said it was a very “tricky” place to get into since the entrance was quite shallow and subject to shoaling. Even though it was low tide, we were able to navigate our way in without going aground and found a beautiful anchorage. After we were settled in, we noticed another sailboat had arrived at the entrance. We could tell that they must have taken one of the turns too soon and were trying to get their boat off the bottom. After several minutes, they were able to rock their boat free and made it safely to deeper water.
