Sunday, September 4, 2011 – Aqua Yacht Harbor Marina, Iuka, MS

We woke to the first cloudy morning we’d seen in weeks. Gale and Maureen took off early in the dinghy to try to catch a few more bass for the freezer. We dinghied over to a nearby cove where Gale had been having good luck finding bass. The “honey hole” wasn’t producing that morning, so after an hour or so, we headed back to the boat just in time to watch the three big houseboats pull out.

We spent some time cleaning up around the boat and doing some routine maintenance. At 11:45 am, we backed out of our spot, said goodbye to our friends and motored back to Aqua Yacht Harbor Marina. It was a cool 78 degrees, the winds were out of the south at 7 mph and we were experiencing a few sprinkles.

Maureen’s original plan for the afternoon was to walk over to the laundry room and run a few loads through the machines. That plan changed when some serious rain started. She thought she would wait until it let up, but it only rained harder. Instead of laundry, she grabbed the keys for the courtesy van and made a grocery run.

And it continued to rain and rain and rain! We’re not used to nonstop rain being from the upper Midwest. What we were experiencing was the outer edge of tropical storm Lee that had been building in the Gulf.
