Tuesday, September 6, 2011 – Blue Bluff Recreation Area, Aberdeen, MS, Tenn-Tom mile 358.2

The morning was a cool 58 degrees and the skies were mostly cloudy – but it wasn’t raining. We had fifty-five miles and six locks to travel through this day so we needed an early start. Shortly after 7 am, we were on our way and in the lock at Bay Springs. In an earlier entry we mentioned that there were two scheduled lock closures beginning on Thursday, September 8th, through Saturday, September 24th. These locks were at mile 376.3 and mile 371.1 and we wanted to make sure we were south of them before they were closed.

As you can see by the photos, the sky appeared rather threatening behind us. However, as we looked toward the south, we were greeted with blue sky and some white fluffy clouds. We were glad to be on our way – there didn’t seem to be any other boats about, so traveling was very peaceful and there was no waiting at any of the locks.

We settled into our anchorage at Blue Bluff Recreation Area at 6:30 pm – in time for a glass of wine out on the bow as we watched the sunset. A very nice day overall.
