Tuesday, September 28, 2010 – Washington Channel, Washington, DC

We were anxious to get to Washington DC so we were up early and had the anchor pulled before 7:30 am. We rode a favorable tide all the way up the river, received a nice push from the southeast wind and covered the remaining 40 miles to DC before 2 pm where we anchored in the Washington Channel with six other boats in front of the Capital Yacht Club (CYC) marina.

From our anchorage near the Tidal Basin, we had a great view of the Washington Monument. We rode the dinghy in to the CYC dinghy dock and noticed our friends’ Gemini, Freedom, docked at the head of D dock. We knew Jim and Deb had taken a slip at CYC, but we hadn’t made contact yet to find out exactly which one. We stopped by to say “Hi” to Deb. She was waiting for Jim to return from his two-week business trip and was expecting him around 7 pm.

We checked in at the marina and received a warm welcome, a quick tour of the facilities, a gate key and directions to the Safeway grocery store. We walked the few blocks to check out the grocery and came back with a couple of bottles of wine and a few other small items.

Back on Blue Heron, we enjoyed a great cityscape at sunset.
