Our plan for the morning was to spend it enjoying our surroundings, visiting with fellow cruisers and taking an hour or so to run into town for a couple of grocery items before leaving for the waterfall anchorage. It was nice to relax and not feel like we should be doing something constructive. At 1 pm, we left our slip and traveled the 3 miles to Waterfalls Cove, mile 217 on the Tennessee River. On our arrival, we found the same three boats pulled up to the beach that we had seen yesterday when we sped by on the luxury yacht. There was also a fourth boat anchored beside the waterfall. As we pulled up towards the beach, we were met by Todd and Don who assisted us as we beached Blue Heron. The three boats rafted up together included Life’s 2 Short (Todd and Brenda Lanning of Boulder, Colorado), Just Rosie (Don and Rosie Peck of Spring, Texas) and Motu (Maureen “Mo” and her dog, Honey, from Bay Springs Marina on the Tennessee River). The three power boats had nosed up to the beach, pulled their anchors up across the sandbar and let their sterns float in 20-foot water at the back. We don’t usually see big power boats beached like this, but the drop off was so steep at the shore it was easy for them to back away.
Todd invited us for a fish fry on the beach tonight. We shared fresh bass caught at the anchorage as well as Missouri catfish that had been brought by Todd and Brenda. The meal was fantastic and the campfire set the mood. It was fun getting to know this group. We were pretty tired (as usual) and went to bed long before the campfire burned out.
