Everyone at the anchorage was expecting a sunny and warm Wednesday; however, it didn’t turn out to be either. We busied ourselves with inside chores through the morning and finally ventured out towards mid afternoon when others seemed to be gathering. Word on the beach was that there was going to be a weenie roast tonight and all were invited. Todd stopped over to bring us an extra map he had of Bay Springs Lake and showed us some excellent anchorages they had used. Afterwards he was going out in his dinghy to bring back firewood for the evening campfire. We told him we would like to help with that so he said we could use his dinghy to gather the next load when he returned from his foraging expedition. The folks here told us about another waterfall less than two miles away that they thought we needed to check out when we went for the wood.

As we were getting ready to leave in Todd’s dinghy, a man pulled up on his pontoon and we were introduced to “Ice Man.” He was a local guy that Todd and Brenda had met on previous visits to this anchorage and they had invited him to tonight’s hot dog feed. We said we’d be back soon and set out to find the waterfall.

We found the waterfall in the cove at mile 218.7. We were able to dinghy in most of the way, but had to get out and walk several yards back to see the falls. We were told that it was possible to walk behind the waterfall; however, neither of us wanted to risk a fall and decided to just take a few pictures and be on our way. Lucy ran around the steep slippery sides of the hill and we watched as she fell about 12-feet to the ground, landing on her shoulder. We held our breath as she stood up, shook herself off and kept on going.

On the return trip, we stopped at a sandbar we had noticed earlier that seemed to have a lot of good firewood easily available. We loaded up the dinghy and headed out with barely enough room for the three of us. Everyone back at the anchorage wanted to take pictures as we came in to shore; evidently, we were quite a sight with large branches sticking out over the sides and above our heads. They couldn’t even tell that Lucy was in the boat with us!

The campfire was started and we sat around visiting and having a few drinks before dinner. Gale impressed everyone by carving up a few weenie roasting sticks. No one had gotten around to figuring out how we were going to cook the hot dogs yet, so the sticks worked great. We all brought sides and shared another fun meal on the beach. Again, we wimped out sometime after sunset and went to bed before all the firewood had burned up. Brenda had a personal rule that she would not go in until all the wood was gone. We learned the next morning that Brenda, Todd, Rosie and Don were up until 1:30 am!
