Mon, Feb 8, 2010 - Key West, FL

We pulled out of our anchorage at Sisters Creek at 8:45 am with sunny skies and light winds. The forecast called for a nice day with winds increasing to 10-15 knots from the northwest making it nice for sailing towards Key West. We were considering an anchorage for the night about 25 miles from Marathon but because it was such a nice day, we continued all the way to Key West. The wind never really strengthened and even though we had our sails up, they didn’t help very much. With temperatures in the upper 80’s and comfortable seas, we didn’t mind at all.

Fifty-four miles and nearly nine hours later, we anchored near Fleming Key in sight of the Coast Guard facility and the downtown area. On our way into port, we passed by three huge cruise ships waiting for their passengers to come aboard after a day at port.
