Sun, Feb 14, 2010 - Saddlebunch Harbor

Happy Valentine’s Day! Everyone was getting tired of the waves slapping up against the boat, but we were all safe, warm and dry.

Gale and Brad surprised Maureen and Alicia by making boiled omelets and toast for breakfast. Afterwards, we all worked on freeing the boat from the mooring ball – a difficult task in the wind and waves. Brad and Maureen were up front working the lines, Gale was at the helm piloting the boat and Alicia assisted with communication between captain and crew. By 9:30 am we were on our way out of the mooring field in search of calmer waters.

The wind was supposed to lessen and we had a couple of different anchorages picked out that would protect us from the north winds. We sailed about 25 miles to Saddlebunch Harbor and anchored in a calm, beautiful spot near the mangroves. What a welcome change from the last few days! Another catamaran pulled in behind us and anchored a few yards away so there were just two boats in this very quiet place.

The grilled shrimp and potatoes for dinner topped off a great day of sailing and sunshine.
