Sun, Feb 7, 2010 - Marathon, FL

We spent this lovely morning on boat chores. Gale worked hard cleaning the hull and stainless steel and also did some more “tweaking” on the harness rigging. Don and Ally waved goodbye as they pulled up Ally’s Cat’s anchor and set their sights on Guatemala. Their intention was to travel non-stop all the way. We forgot to ask them how many miles and how long it would take, but the winds were favorable for their sail and they probably finished the trip in good time.

After our chores and some lunch, we dinghied into the marina to drop off trash and fill up the water jugs. Maureen stopped at the office to add a couple of dollars to the laundry card so that she could do one more load tonight before leaving Marathon. Then it was back to the dinghy to search for a place to tie up near the West Marine store. We entered the most likely access point in the canal near the Marathon Boat Yard and were told that West Marine used to rent the dinghy dock but did not renew their lease this year. Since we were unable to find any other access by water, we simply motored back to Blue Heron to save those purchases for the store in Key West.

Back at home, we had a quick dinner and loaded up the dinghy with the computers, the laundry items, our shower paraphernalia, the mail we wanted to post, some paperwork to follow up on, a bottle of wine and a couple of plastic cups. We said goodbye to Lucy and headed back to the marina for the Super Bowl and some multi-tasking. About the time we finished laundry, showers and our computer business, the game was at half-time and the Colts were ahead. We opted to go home then and were very surprised to learn the next day that the New Orleans Saints had won the game.
