Tues, Jan 26, 2010 - Captiva Island ('Tween Waters)

We had hoped to take Mark and JoEllen out for a cruise today, but the winds were a bit too brisk and the water quite choppy. Instead, we met them for breakfast around 10 am and made a plan to enjoy the day around the resort and maybe go for a dinghy ride in the afternoon. We had brought our laundry to shore with us, so Maureen got that started while the rest went to the beach. Maureen soon joined Gale and Lucy for a short walk before heading back to the laundry to tend to her task.

Gale and Maureen spent most of the afternoon by the pool enjoying the sun and the hot tub. JoEllen and Mark opted for the Gulf side and relaxed and read their books in covered cabanas. About 4 pm, we joined up again, grabbed a couple of drinks from the poolside bar and took a dinghy ride to Blind Pass where we did some shelling. As usual, the birds fishing in the mangroves were interesting and plentiful. We admired the beautiful homes, wonderful yards and large boats along the canal.

After our dinghy ride, we stopped at Blue Heron for a quick change of clothes and to check on Lucy. Back on shore, we went up to Mark and JoEllen’s room so they could change and then piled into the car for a trip to The Lazy Flamingo where we ordered appetizers for dinner. It was quite an experience. We were impressed with the host/bartender/order taker/server/busboy all rolled into one man who did his best to keep the dinner rush from becoming too chaotic. It’s just a good thing he didn’t have to cook, too!

Mark and JoEllen had to be up very early in the morning to make their 6:30 am flight out of Ft Myers so we bid them farewell, thanked them for the good times and left them to their packing and preparations for the return trip. It was great to be able to share the last few days with them!
