Another clear, calm and sunny morning greeted us and at 8:20 am, we had the anchor up and were motoring away from Hampton, Virginia. The passage was 39 nautical miles to Deltaville, Virginia, where we anchored near the marina with three other boats, including a Gemini catamaran, Lilly Pad. It was 3:15 pm when we arrived so we had plenty of time to enjoy our surroundings.
As we were settling in for the evening, the couple from Lilly Pad stopped by in their dinghy and we met Sandy and Nancy. They were on their way into the marina to do some laundry and use the shower facilities. We visited for a few minutes and learned that Sandy was very handy and had made a lot of interesting modifications to their boat. Later in the evening, Gale checked out some of those ideas and was quite impressed. Sandy had made and installed a composting head which was working very well for them. Imagine, no “pump-outs” and no odor! Also, he had just finished building their new dinghy – it has a glass bottom viewing area and the forward part of the boat folds down into the water to make an easy-access climbing ladder. Anyone who has tried to get into a dinghy from the water after snorkeling or swimming would appreciate that!
