Maureen was up in time to meet Don outside at 7:25 am for the morning walk. He and his neighbor meet every morning in front of her house at 7:30 am and walk up and down the neighborhood road for 45 minutes. Another couple joined in on the walk today so there were five of us walking and visiting. Following our exercise, we were anxious to see what the Weather Channel folks were saying about the hurricane today. It sounded like the storm was gathering strength and they still weren’t sure where it was going to land. We decided that we really needed to get Blue Heron up on dry ground and hoped that the boatyard would call us today.
After breakfast, we completed some chores on the boat and began initial hurricane preparations. After lunch, Don and Alice drove us to some of the other towns nearby. The area is very rural but there is a nice grocery store and a Super WalMart within a few miles of their home. We drove to Reedville and toured the Fishermen’s Museum where we learned about menhaden fish and the harvesting methods. There was lots of information on crabbing, clamming and netting fish. We also saw several restored fishing boats and some that were newly crafted. At the end of our tour, we drove to the boatyard and inquired about being hauled out. The manager said he had tried to call us several times but our phone wasn’t working. We had discovered there was a problem with the phone during the afternoon ride. Evidently, the payment on our first billing with Verizon was reversed and our service cut off! Anyway, we were told to be at the boatyard dock at 9 am tomorrow morning and they would haul us out.
Tonight’s meal was on us – Don & Ally had mentioned that the Mexican restaurant in town was pretty good, so we went with that suggestion and came away full and happy!
