It was time to leave this wonderful spot so at 8:00 am we had the anchor up and were motoring to the nearby Spring Cove Marina for fuel and water. We were on our way again before 9 am.
We had over 50 miles to cover to get to Annapolis but with a good southwest wind, our passage went easily and we were anchored in front of the Naval Academy by 5 pm. The navy boys were in the middle of football practice and the sailboats were all around. We were in for a treat as well – it was the last Wednesday night of the summer for the organized sailboat races! The wind was blowing 15 to 20 knots which made for some very exciting sport on the water! It appeared that there were several classes of boats – each staying within their own kind. At the end of each race, the boaters sailed all the way back into and through the harbor. There seemed to be a lot of “hot-dogging” going on, but we were quite impressed with their sailing skills, all the same.
