Sunday, September 5, 2010 – Solomons Island, MD

At 9 am the anchor was up and we were following last night’s track out of St. Jerome’s Creek. We had about 20 miles to go to reach Solomons Island, our intended destination. At 1:15 pm we had anchored in front of the Calvert Marine Museum and found ourselves in a very busy cruising area. For a small town, there were many marinas, restaurants and shops as well as hundreds of boats.

Later in the afternoon, we took a dinghy ride around the harbor where we saw our friends, Jim and Deb, on their Gemini, Freedom. We visited for a few minutes and they invited us to join them when they went out for happy hour. At 5 pm, they dinghied to our boat and mentioned that they had invited some other folks over. Soon we met Jill and Tim who were aboard s/v Links. These folks live on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake. They had their niece and her husband with them and were out enjoying several days on the water together.

After visiting for an hour or so, we followed Jim and Deb (by dinghy) over to the Captain’s Table restaurant for dinner. We had last seen these friends in Miami where we shared the anchorage at Sunset Lake. It was nice to catch up with them. Before the evening was over, they had invited us to dinner on their boat tomorrow night.
